Saturday the 19th of November was a night to remember. I was so proud of all the people who
attended and were part of the first ever Jewish Pride float at the Perth
Pride Parade. In my 24 year existence this was one of my proudest
Jewish moments. Around 40 of us turned out kitted with signs, Israeli flags and
banners. We marched down William and James street (Perth City) with 1000s upon 1000s
of onlookers. Every step taken we received an overwhelming applause from
the onlooking crowd. To cap things off we were award the trophy for
being the best walking group. We beet the Greens who had won it the last
2 years running.
We ended the night with a moving Havadallah
service in the James Street Park where 2 ministers and other non-Jewish
marches took part. It was a truly uplifting experience.
We only had one sour moment where a member of the Socialist Alliance, on their megaphone felt the
need to shout out JEWS CAN'T RUN JEWS CAN'T HIDE JEWS SUPPORT GENOCIDE.
He was very quickly was silenced by members of the onlooking crowd and
the festivities continued. No one from our group engaged with this
idiot. But it does demonstrate the underlining anti-antisemitism in the
left-wing socialist leadership.
As a member of the Youth it was our opportunity to put the Jewish
community and Israel on the map, Demonstrating that we are a
progressive people that are tolerant and excepting of all.
